New Life Church has been gathering on Old Oregon Trail since 1983. We're a Spirit-filled congregation of the Church of God, rooted in Scripture and built on ordinary people who love this city.

Our Story

How it all started.

New Life Church was founded in 1983 by Pastor Emeritus Bill Phillips. We broke ground in 1985, opened our current building in 1990, and have been a church family on Old Oregon Trail ever since.

We're a local congregation of the Church of God, a movement that has, for more than 125 years, focused on sharing the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. Today the Church of God has a worldwide membership of more than seven million people across nearly 180 countries.

Four decades in, the heart of it hasn't changed. Every person who walks through our doors is a valued member of the body. Whatever your background, whatever your story, there's a place for you here.

We come together to worship the God who made us and saved us: in Scripture opened honestly, in prayer offered together, in songs that put words to what He's done.

Nobody should have to walk through anything alone. We show up for each other and for our neighbors in Redding, with a meal, a ride, a prayer, a seat saved on Sunday.

Declaration of Faith

What we believe.

We believe the whole Bible is completely and equally inspired, the written Word of God. Below is our Declaration of Faith, adopted word for word from the Church of God as the standard expression of our doctrine.

01 The Bible

We believe in the verbal inspiration of the Bible.

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.2 Timothy 3:16 NASB

02 God the Father, Son & Holy Ghost

We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.Matthew 28:19 NASB

03 Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, crucified, buried, and raised from the dead, ascended to heaven and seated at the right hand of the Father as Intercessor.

Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.Hebrews 7:25 NASB

04 Sin & Repentance

We believe that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and that repentance is commanded of God and necessary for forgiveness.

Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.Acts 3:19 NASB

05 Justification & the New Birth

We believe that justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.

He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy.Titus 3:5 NASB

06 Sanctification & Holiness

We believe in sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ, through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.

We believe in holiness as God's standard of living for His people.

Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.Hebrews 12:14 NASB

07 The Baptism with the Holy Ghost

We believe in the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.

We believe in speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.Acts 2:4 NASB

08 Water Baptism

We believe in water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.Romans 6:4 NASB

09 Divine Healing

We believe divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.

But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.Isaiah 53:5 NASB

10 The Lord's Supper & Washing of Feet

We believe in the Lord's Supper and washing of the saints' feet.

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.1 Corinthians 11:26 NASB

11 The Second Coming of Christ

We believe in the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First to resurrect the righteous dead and gather the living saints to Him in the air, and then to reign on the earth for a thousand years.

And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 NASB

12 The Resurrection & Eternal Life

We believe in the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous and eternal punishment for the wicked.

The trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.1 Corinthians 15:52 NASB
